FASHION SHOW OF THE ESTAING TEACHING HOSPITAL OF CLERMONT-FERRAND

This year, the artists have chosen to offer the children the opportunity to create with a rebel look during their stay at the hospital.

The staff takes decisions for the health of the sick children, but paradoxally it takes some freedom away from them and make them passive. The artists looked for a flaw in this system so that the creativity of each child could unveil.

Every day, the laundry department throws away 50 uniforms, damaged or used. Those uniforms were used by the children and teenagers for their creations. Children have transformed, cut, painted, torn, emboidered the uniforms of the hospital staff.

They used the uniforms as a support of their wishes or frustrations … one kid painted and emboidered carrots, cherries and salad on the legs of the white trousers for fruits are forbidden in his or her diet, while another wrote down violent words on a yellow blouse to express the anger raised by the fact of being in a hospital. Another yet drew a plane to show his will to go back to his or her native country ; rebellion was written down on the uniform, diverting it from its basic neutral, interchangeable function.
